BIRTH WEIGHT COMMUNICATION PROJECT Spring 2019

Given the data from the North Carolina State Center for Health and Environmental Statistics in 2001, create a well-organized, creative PowerPoint presentation that will analyze the given information. The data, which is stored in the Excel file, named “Communication Project Data” should be attached. Consider the following points. Provide an outline answering the following questions with well-structured sentences that help explain the data. ( All math content must be correct). 1. Choose three from the following variables in the study: Plurality, Sex, Marital, Racemom, Hispmom, Smoke, Drink, Low, and Premie. For each of the variables selected, construct a frequency table that gives the counts and percentages of observations in each category (class). 2. Choose three from the following variables in the study: Plurality, Sex, Marital, Racemom, Hispmom, Smoke, Drink, Low, and Premie. For each of the variables selected construct a bar graph or pie chart that better summarize the data. 3. For each of the following variables in the study: Mage, Weeks, and Gained construct a histogram and comment on the shape. 4. For each of the following variables in the study: Mage, Weeks, and Gained, construct a table to show the mean, median, standard deviation, the minimum value, and the maximum value. 5. Suppose a friend of yours has given birth to a 10 pound 3 ounce baby (1 pound = 16 ounces). Is this unusual? Why or why not? In writing explain your reasoning. 6. Another friend of yours had a baby and gained approximately 30 pounds during her pregnancy. In writing explain to her why she should not be too depressed over this occurrence. 7. In writing, comment on the percentage of women who reported smoking and drinking during pregnancy. 8. Lastly, propose three other variables you would like to investigate in regard to the weight of the mother. Write the explicit question you would ask the mother prior to delivery and in writing explain why you want to know that information. 9. Of particular interest will be incidents of low infant birth weight. Low birth weight is commonly defined as less than 2500 grams. Since this presentation requires me to record my own voice explaining the information, the writer is not required to submit this requisition in a powerpoint presentation. Nonetheless, the following are guidelines that must be met. 1. Make sure to use the appropriate math vocabulary when presenting your information. 2. All written information must be grammatically correct and written in complete sentences. 3. The use of tables is required. Clearly label all tables and when appropriate, give the units of measure. 4. All math content must be error free. 5. Minimum of three sentences per question.
