By Day 5

Respond to one of your colleagues’ posts and:

  1. Make recommendations for the design choice.
  2. Explain whether you think that this is the appropriate test to use for the research question. Why or why not?
  3. As a lay reader, were you able to understand the results and their implications? Why or why not?

Research Design One Way Anova

Research question

         Does region in which a country is affecting the satisfaction of an individual with the handling of the economy that is the handling of the economy index? There has been lots of debate on whether the region a country determines the satisfaction level with the handling of the economy with some arguing that it does and others claiming that it doesn’t. The contrasting views regarding this subject necessitated this study to answer this question.

Hypothesis

         The null hypothesis of this question is that there is no significant difference in the handling of the economy index that is the level of satisfaction with the handling of the economy between the four country regions. That is;

H0: µWest Africa = µEast Africa = µSouthern Africa = µNorth Africa

        The alternative hypothesis is that is a significant difference in the handling of the economy index that is the level of satisfaction with the handling of the economy between the four country regions. That is;

H0: µWest Africa ≠ µEast Africa ≠ µSouthern Africa ≠ µNorth Africa

Where µ is the mean handling of the economy index.

Research Design

         The research design that best aligns with this question is the cross-section research design because it involves the use of data that was conducted at one time and not over a period (Creswell, 2013).

Variables

 The dependent variable is the handling of the economy index which is measured on a scale level of measurement. This is used to measure the individual citizen’s satisfaction with the way the government is handling the economy. A higher handling of the economy index score indicates a higher level of satisfaction.

The independent variable is the Country region which is measured on a nominal level of measurement. It is a categorical variable with four categories which are East Africa, west Africa, southern Africa and North Africa. This is the regions that the individual countries belong to (Wagner, 2020).

A one way Anova was conducted to determine if the there was any significant difference in the Handling of Economy index between the country regions. After the analysis (table 2), it was revealed that there was a significant difference in the Handling of the economy index between the country regions, F (3, 45964) =979.071, P=0.000. Further analysis that is the Tukey HSD post hoc analysis (table 3) indicate that there was a significant difference in the handling of the economy index between all the regions except for between East Africa and the North Africa. This is because other than between the two regions, all the difference between other regions had a level of significance which is less than 0.05 (Mayers, 2013).

Conclusion

          From the one way Anova, the country region affects the level of the country’s citizen’s level of satisfaction with the handling of the economy. However, this effect is evident between all the regions except for between the East Africa and the North Africa regions which tend to have similar level of satisfaction in the handling of the economy. The effect was highest between the Southern Africa and the East Africa with Southern Africa having the highest handling of the economy index (Laureate Education, 2016h).
