Develop a Strategy List for Learners at Different Stages of Readiness

You have been charged with assisting to move your school, a school in the district where you are employed in an administrative capacity, or a school in which you are serving as a university consultant from good to great. As a literacy coach, you will conduct weekly Professional Learning Community (PLC) sessions. At your first session, one of the new teachers indicates that students in her classroom are at all stages of reading readiness. She wants help with strategies to use with these students.

Design a strategy workshop suitable for presentation to new and veteran teachers. The two hour workshop should include the following:

A brief introduction, including the importance of literacy. A chart, outline, or other visual tool that briefly shows the main points of providing a series of strategies to address the needs of these diverse students (English language learners, students who need to develop language skills, students developing reading readiness skills, and those who are reading). Discuss comprehension strategies for both language learners and readers. Justify the strategies you recommend with appropriate research. Two scenarios which require the participants to apply literacy strategies to at-risk and gifted students. A concluding summary of the workshop. Length: 5-7 pages not including title and reference pages. References: Minimum of 5 scholarly resources.
