It is imperative for each perioperative nurse to understand how these microorganisms can be spread to the patient in the perioperative setting and the measures surgical team members must take to prevent the spread of infection. Conduct a literature search using the mySaskPolytech library for a journal article(s) discussing the spread of your chosen bacteria or virus. Review the current editions of Rothrock and ORNAC Standards to help you with your paper and include them along with your article in your paper. Review the perioperative guidelines from the former Saskatoon Health Region SHR Contact Precautions in the Operating Room or from the former Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region RQHR Work Standard to assist you.
Your paper should be 4-5 pages in length (including your cover and reference page). Discuss how your chosen virus or bacteria is transmitted or spread to other patients. Describe potential diseases that may occur with your chosen form of virus or bacteria. Identify the perioperative precautions surgical team members must take to prevent the transmission of your specific virus or bacteria.
