What is a Research Poster?

Posters are widely used in the academic community. Case study posters summarize information or research concisely and attractively to help publicize it and generate discussion. 

The poster is usually a mixture of a brief text mixed with tables, graphs, pictures, and other presentation formats. The instructor and your classmates will learn about your case study from your poster and will make comments on it.

  3. How can I visually share my research with my classmates? Should I use charts, graphs, photos, images?

What makes a good poster?

  • You can create a PDF from One PPT slide, change the dimensions of the slide to 16.5 x 23.4 inches, save your PPT as a PDF file and attach the file to the discussion below.
  • Do not insert the poster as an image, attach the PDF file to your reply. 
  • Covers content from all the sections in the assignmen. 
  • Includes your name and the name of your selected case study/date of the event. 
  • Consistent and clean layout can be either vertical or horizontal poster. 
  • Title is short and draws interest
  • Word count in the entire poster of about 300 to 800 words
  • Text is clear and to the point
  • Use of bullets, numbering, and headlines make it easy to read
  • Effective use of pictures, maps, tables graphics, color and fonts

What software can I use to make a poster?

  • PowerPoint: A popular, easy-to-use option. It is part of Microsoft Office package and is available for free to FSU students. If you don’t have access to a computer, you can use the library computers. Remember to turn your PPTS into PDFs before submitting. 
  • Microsoft Publisher, save your file as a PDF
  • Piktochart, save teh file as PDF
  • Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign: Feature-rich professional software that is good for posters including lots of high-resolution images, but they are more complex and expensive.
